Our mission is to create a fun space for families and friends to learn a thing or two about cake decorating, while creating an experience to be cherished forever. We believe in unlocking the creativity within each and everyone of us!

The Canvas Cake Studio is perfect for Birthdays, Baby Showers, Bridal Showers, Anniversaries, Graduations, Corporate Events, Team Building, Holiday Parties, Family Outings, Play Dates, Client Appreciation, Scouting, Home Schooling, Fundraising and more.

Danielle Kattan

My beginnings in the world of cake-making go back to my childhood, at both my mom’s and grandma’s houses. I remember my mom making all sorts of cakes and desserts for family and friends; and my Grandma cooking Palestinian food for 60 plus family members every Sunday. Both taught me how to make many of the sweets and savories that I am still making today, but above all I learned how, through food, we can touch so many hearts, and bring family and friends together.

We came to Winston-Salem in 2003. I was a fashion designer with a baby and no work papers- only my husband had the work visa. Not sure what I was going to do here, I decided to follow my mom’s footsteps – go figure! After spending all that money in a fashion design education, I don’t think my dad was too happy with my choice.  But, those design skills do carry-over and are put to good use in my passion for designing and bringing to life one-of-a-kind cakes that enhance special occasions and help create lasting memories.

How did I finally arrive “here”? To make a long story short, in 2006 I graduated from GTCC Culinary Arts program, and worked my way up from there. In the process of honing my skills, I worked in Winston-Salem for The Stocked Pot Cooking School & Simple Elegance Catering, and at a nursing home as their kitchen manager. I relocated to Thailand for three years, and while there attended Le Cordon Bleu. Upon my return to Winston-Salem in 2012, I became a chef-instructor with Providence Culinary Training (a branch of Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC) – while still working on my cakes! Little to say, I started my cake business three times!

The Canvas Cake Studio is created to bring family and friends together while learning a thing or two about cake decorating. With this endeavor, I hope to pass along everything I’ve learned so far, but mainly to share my love for this art.
